Unit Description In cultural tourism, students will learn the development of tourist attractions, historical tourism products, and tourism resources considering Eastern and Western cultural characteristics. In tourism industry that is a new growth engine strategic industry, cultural industry may play a role of 21C high value added industry. Therefore, since culture includes a way of life and thinking of a nation’s people, and is one of the most important attraction factors, students will understand various cultures in the modern society by learning the essence, phenomenon and developmental process of culture, problems of modern culture, desirable direction of cultural development, roles of culture affecting cultural industry, and prediction of cultural market. Accordingly, students will grow as professional tourism employees that international society requires through case studies of tourism products, resources and behaviors suitable for each culture by learning and understanding America, Europe and Asia possessing different cultures.

Application of the Unit Students can become professional tourism employees by developing basic competence through theory and discussion centered education that enables them to quickly adapt to tourism industry. Students can develop competence by becoming major agents of the class, understanding interrelationship of culture and tourism, and learning cultural tourism more systematically and in depth.
