Expression of Interest for manufacturing of Solar Charkha KVIC in collaboration with a few units took up project to develop Solar Charkhas to enhance wage earnings of the spinners compared to manual spinning and also to eliminate hardship/drudgery involved in the manual operation of charkha. The prototype Solar Charkhas developed are offering scope for earning significantly higher wages compared to manual spinning, reduction in drudgery for spinners, enhancement in productivity, improvement in yarn quality, new employment opportunities in offering better wages. KVIC developed 5 different models of Solar Charkhas and after consulting stake holders have frozen technical specifications for manufacturing a commercial model. The specifications are placed in the Annexure-I. The solar charkha needs appropriate solar kits attachment for operation. Government of India has approved inclusion of solar charkha activity as an eligible Village Industry under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) of Ministry of MSME. The PMEGP is a bank driven scheme. KVIC, being nodal agency, arranges implementation of the scheme through its field offices, State/UT KVI Boards and DICs. In order to develop a wide network of Solar Charkha manufacturing facility, KVIC wishes to develop a pool of manufacturers willing to engage themselves in manufacturing and supply of Solar Charkha as per attached specifications to the Khadi Societies/PMEGP Units/such other agencies willing to procure Solar Charkha.
