Research Paper - ‘Performance Excellence Process in Family Business Management’, Submitted to AIMA as part of PhD requirement. ABSTRACT - Family businesses create an estimated 70% to 90% of global GDP annually and majority of family business owners want to ensure a livelihood for their dependents by running the business, but only 10 per cent of family businesses remain active for the third generation. It is in this context this exploratory research has been taken up but in due course of study it has been observed that this can never be a separate problem in family firms. Many inherent problems have been observed which has been summarized into 9 core challenges and addressing those can be Performance Excellence Process for the family firm can be devise. Even though India's maternal mortality rate - the number of women between 15-49 years dying due to maternal causes for 100,000 live births - improved from 398 in 1997-98 to 212 in 2007-08, the nation still has miles to go to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goal of 109 MMR.
