Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry. มีประวัติการตีพิมพมายาวนานถึง 89 ป นับตั้งแต Edition แรก ตีพิมพในป คศ. 1914 โดย Professor Fritz Ullmann ณ กรุง เบอรลิน ประเทศสหพันธสาธารณรัฐเยอรมนี หนังสือชุดดังกลาวมี ชื่อวา “the Enzyklopädie der Technischen Chemie” ซึ่ง ตีพิมพเปนภาษาเยอรมัน หลังจากนั้นจึงเริ่มเปนที่รูจักกันอยาง แพรหลายและอยางรวดเร็ว และกลาวกันวาหนังสือชุดดังกลาว เปนหนังสืออางอิงในสาขาเคมีอุตสาหกรรมที่เปนมาตรฐาน (standard reference work in industrial chemistry) และนัก เคมีในยุคนั้นก็ใหความเชื่อถือและใชหนังสือชุด Ullmann's นี้เปน จุดเริ่มตนของการศึกษาและเปนแหลงแรกในการอางอิงทางเคมี ตอมาไดมีการตีพม ิ พ Edition ที่ 2 ในป 1928 - 1932 ตีพิมพ Edition ที่ 3 ในป 1951 – 1970 และตีพิมพ Edition ที่ 4 ในป 1972 - 1984 มีจํานวน 25 เลม โดย 18 เลมแรกมี เนื้อหาเกีย ่ วกับเคมีทั่วไปที่เรียงตามลําดับอักษร สวน 6 เลม ตอมามีเนือ ้ หาเกีย ่ วกับทฤษฎีและวิธีการผลิตทางวิศวกรรมเคมี และกระบวนการทางเทคโนโลยี สวนเลมสุดทายเปนดัชนีรวม เลมสําหรับสืบคนหัวเรื่องทั้งชุด สําหรับ Edition ที่ 5 ไดจัดพิมพในป 1985 -1996 ในชื่อ Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry โดย จัดพิมพเปนภาษาอังกฤษเปนครั้งแรก และไดเริ่มจัดพิมพ Edition ที่ 6 ในเดือนธันวาคม ป 2002 และจัดพิมพเสร็จสิ้นในป 2003 ดังนั้น Ullmann's จึงเปนที่รูจักกันดีทั่วโลก วาเปนหนังสือ ที่ใหความรูดานเคมีอุตสาหกรรมและทุกๆ สิ่งที่เกี่ยวของ ที่มีความ ทันสมัยทีส ่ ุดและมีความนาเชื่อถือมากที่สุด ไมวาจะเปน กระบวนการผลิต สารเคมีและผลิตภัณฑเคมีตางๆ การวิเคราะห ทางเคมี ทางเภสัชวิทยา ทางเทคโนโลยีชีวภาพ และอื่นๆ หนังสือชุดนี้ประกอบดวยบทความมากกวา 800 รายการ ซึ่ง ตีพิมพในเอกสารมากวา 30,000 หนา และมีจํานวนทั้งหมด 40 เลม มีการจัดทําโดยเรียงลําดับอักษร ในแตละ Chapter สามารถอานไดงายและเหมาะสําหรับการเริ่มตนศึกษาเรือ ่ งราว ทางเคมีเรื่องใดเรือ ่ งหนึ่ง และจะชี้แนะไปสูหัวขออื่นๆ ตอไป นอกจากนี้ ยังมีเอกสารอางอิงไปยังวรรณกรรมหรืองานวิจย ั และ เอกสารสิทธิบัตรทีเ่ กี่ยวของอีกจํานวนมาก มีการจัดทํารายการ
